Jail

The current Nemaha County Jail facility was constructed over a period from 2015-2016, and opened for operation in August 2016.  This new facility is a pod based layout with inmates being supervised 24/7 by staff in Control.  Many considerations were taken into account during the design and construction of this facility to ensure a safe work environment for staff as well as a safe and secure environment for those incarcerated within.  NMSO jail has the ability to house a maximum of 32 inmates in addition to 4 temporary holding cells.

Prior to the construction of this facility, the Nemaha County Jail operated out of space at the other end of the Law Enforcement Center from 1978 through 2016.  Prior to 1978 the jail and Sheriff’s residence were located a block to the south at the corner of 6th and Nemaha which has  now been renovated to house a museum by the Nemaha County Historical Society.
